Valwood Park Baptist Church
Valwood Park Baptist Church (VPBC) is in the process of looking for a pastor. Pastor Jerry Hays retired in January after serving 30 years as pastor. During this interim time, Dr. Bob Dean is serving as pastor and will serve until the church calls a new pastor.
The members of the Pastor Search Committee are: They are: Doug Laxson (Chairman), Jerry Crensaw, Janet Cryer, Margaret Garneaux, and Butch McTague.
Valwood Park Baptist Church was started as mission church in 1956. The church has had an active ministry in the Farmers Branch/Carrollton community for many years. The church is affiliated with Dallas Baptist Association, Texas Baptists, and the Southern Baptist Convention.
The Pastor Search Committee conducted a survey of the membership and prepared a Pastor Profile based on the survey. A Pastor Profile expresses some of the desired qualifications of the membership for pastoral candidates.
Major Insights from the Pastor Profile:
· 5 years or more of pastoral ministry experience
· College degree
· Pastoral skills desired include gifted preacher/communicator, leadership skills in leading a congregation, vision/strategy planning, developing staff/leaders, and personal evangelism/outreach.
· Areas of ministry that have the greatest need of attention are general vision/direction, reaching families with youth/children, local evangelism, and discipleship.
· A majority of the church prefers that the candidate be bilingual in English/Spanish but it is not a requirement.
